Moxie Brown was a progressive southern rock and jazz band based in Arlington, VA. We had original songs and material from artists such as The Allman Brothers, Paul Pena, Phish, Santana, Miles Davis and more. See our set list for more details.

After more than 3 years, we suffered the loss of 3 players at once, all of whom were forced to leave due to outside circumstances in their lives. We decided at that point to end it in April 2006. It was a fun ride!

Our lineup on the 2005 recordings is:

Glenn Fink - Organ, Vocals
Steve Sturtevant - Guitar stage left
Greg Burns - Percussion
David George - Guitar stage right
John Ward - Bass
Jon Bennett - Drums

You can still hear 5 original songs and some cover song recordings on the sounds page.

Glenn Fink is a veteran of 6 different gigging bands as either keyboardist or bass player. Glenn hails from Boston, moving to DC in 2001 after a run with Grateful Dead tribute band Laughing Water, some of whose shows are available at archive.org. Moxie Brown was Glenn's first band as a frontman, and he was also the primary songwriter for the group. Glenn's new project is The Black Finks.

Steve Sturtevant is a charter member of Moxie Brown. He hails from Baltimore and was a founder of the blues/jam band Tobacco Road. Steve grew up influenced by bands such as the Allmans, Led Zeppelin, and the Grateful Dead. He is currently listening to The Derek Trucks Band, Frogwings, and the Flecktones to name a few.

Greg Burns is a longtime fixture of the DC music scene, where he is a veteran of several DC area bands. Greg is also a professional sound engineer and has also played several gigs with latin bands in the DC area.

David George hails from the Virginia/Carolina border and graduated from Virginia Tech. He played in Tech’s popular frat band Stone Free, and worse. After graduating he spent five years in the Richmond music scene playing original blues-rock with Sacred Groove and Wicked Geezer, before moving to Washington where he played in DC’s experimental sOuLfUnKoPeRa and did recording & session work before joining Moxie Brown. He counts Frank Zappa, Scott Henderson, Duane Allman, Miles & Trane, and Hendrix & Trower among his main influences. Bowling is a favorite pastime. David also writes some material for the group.
