NEXT SHOW:
nothing scheduled (but I'm working on a new original + covers group....stay tuned. And let me know if you play melodic bass or electric fingerpicked guitar, enjoy groove driven folk rock, and are interested)
NEWS - January 28, 2010
Looking for a progressive folk rock guitarist who can fingerpick acoustic and play electric solos. Structured arrangements with freeform solo slots. Would be great if you also play bass and have some vocal ability, but not necessary. Weekly rehearsals at least until after recording.
Must be disciplined, able to take direction but also offer creative input. Helps if you have a good ear and natural instincts for dynamics and keeping on a good groove. Must have time for the band right now as we want to work out arrangements and begin recording and gigging fast.
We are a band with enough original material ready for a full CD. Covered artists include Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Steve Winwood, Supertramp, The Band, Chicago, Aretha Franklin and other classic rock type bands.
No drug problems or alcoholics please. Rehearse in Centreville, VA.
Here are some recent rehearsals. Please note we'll have a frequent electric violin guesting who does not appear on these recordings.
My Neil Young tribute band, the Prairie Rust Band, is playing for free on Saturday August 15th in Herndon. Hope you can make this one! It will feature the entire 11 piece band.
In other news - watch this space for upcoming bookings for my own original music. I am making final decisions on which songs to record for CD number 2, which I hope to have finished by the end of 2009.
NEWS - June 26, 2009
I'm playing on July 2 with Molly Hagen at her CD release party at the Velvet Lounge in DC. Her stuff is great. Hope you can make it out!
The Prairie Rust Band continues to book new gigs. We now have some new confirmed dates at McMahon's Pub in Warrenton for later this year - more info on that to come! July 10 will be our debut gig at the new House of Wing in Herndon.
NEWS - April 29, 2009
So the Prairie Rust Band now has its first confirmed gig - at The Strasburg Theatre in Strasburg, near Front Royal. Jeff Taylor will open at 8 PM with a solo set, then the band joins him for the rest of the night. If you're in that neighborhood, make plans to spend your Saturday with us!
In other news, there's a chance some configuration of the band will be playing at the Occoquan River Festival this weekend. Check back here for further details as they become available.
NEWS - April 16, 2009
Several bits of news. First, I've joined a fledgling new Neil Young tribute band called the Prairie Rust Band, led by Jeff Taylor, who has been playing Neil Young solo gigs in the area for awhile now. The band is currently recording its demo CD. Check back in a week or so for the final mixes!
The other news is that yes, I am working on a new band of my own and new material to go on a second CD! Soon enough, I'll be posting demos of the new material at my myspace page.
NEWS - March 5, 2009
After 6 months off, I've moved and bought myself some gear to facilitate recording new material. I have a new batch of songs that are just about ready to record. I'm shooting for a summer or fall release of my second CD. Watch this space for news on that. In the meantime I hope you can make it out to Iota on March 18 and hear some of the new material!
NEWS - September 25, 2008
Fall is here and the band is through playing gigs for the rest of the year. I'm going to concentrate on writing in the hope of getting another CD together. I still plan on spending Wednesdays at the open mikes at Iota, usually with a piano, and I'm always glad to sit in with other performers.
Our show at Bangkok Blues last Saturday (September 20) was a lot of fun. There is some video up on my Youtube page - here's one, Steve Winwood's Can't Find My Way Home:
NEWS - August 10, 2008

NEWS - MARCH 2, 2008
I'm looking for a guitar player for my new solo group The Glenn Fink Band, which includes bass, drums, percussion, and keys. I'm playing mainly piano and organ in this one. Let me know if you want to try it out, but be warned that we're rehearsing in Leesburg!
NEWS - JANUARY 23, 2008
Here's a 40 minute podcast interview that I did with the Unfiltered News Network. It was recorded in late August, but due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, it only just became available. Includes a live acoustic solo performance of "96 Years Old".
In other news - The Black Finks are ending! I am once again attempting to start an electric band, and I'm off to a flying start. I expect to be booking gigs with the new group by Memorial Day. The focus will be my original songs and a few choice covers. Stay tuned!
Incidentally - The Black Finks were contacted over the weekend by Steve Clark of Died Pretty, who said he really enjoyed our performance of their song, "Free Dirt". Here's the clip he saw on YouTube.
NEWS - DECEMBER 18, 2007
Happy holidays everyone. Here's a video clip of The Black Finks performing with Karen Scuderi last Friday at The Potter's House in Washington, D.C.
"Glenn Fink - His HOT STOVES BURN album is great. Distinctive voice and sophisticated keyboard work." --Tom Dews
Tom Dews is a fine rural folk/blues sounding acoustic player well worth hearing. I want to thank him for the acknowledgment!
NEWS - OCTOBER 3, 2007
Well, turns out the electric band is not happening
at this time - except for the one gig coming up on the 23rd
at The
Red & The Black.
We're playing with a great indie band from Chicago, Scale
Model. Don't miss it! The
Black Finks are still gigging, so I'll still be out there.
